Role and responsibilities
The WASH Assistant is responsible for assisting in the day to day implementation of the WASH programme in Beirut and Mount Lebanon through carrying out water and sanitation activities in line with NRC guidelines.
Generic responsibilities
- Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
- Assist with the implementation of the WASH function portfolio according to the plan of action
- Prepare and develop status reports as required
- Ensure proper filing of documents
- Promote and share ideas for improvement of the Emergency Response function
- Monitor and report on the Water and Sanitation activities and ensure compliance with plans and NRC standards
- Ensure minimum WASH standards (based on SPHERE) are applied and maintained in schools
- Carry out related mainstreaming of protection in program daily implementation as per the set NRC’s protection mainstreaming guidelines, and ensures reporting and breaches/concerns to the line manager for proper action.
- Ensure that all protection related detected cases are referred to the concerned referral focal point and to the related Protection Coordinator.
Specific responsibilities
- Participate in all WASH, emergency, COVID-19 and cholera response-related activities
- Mobilize communities and community leaders for the building materials, construction activities and maintenance of structures
- Administrate payment requests for partners, contractors, suppliers, construction workers etc.
- Participate in distribution of kits in camps,gatherings, Informal Settlements, Collective shelters, Lebanese communities, etc..
- Conduct rapid and precise assessments for water and waste water systems, schools, housing units, collective shelters, informal settlements
- Produce accurate drawings, reports, measurements (BOQs) and/or photographs as evidence of a technical assessment.
- Monitor water and sanitation facilities acceptance and beneficiary satisfaction and supervise the contractor’s works.
- Collect water samples from sites for testing it in NRC lab.
- Contribute to renewable energy design and implementation.
- Generate comprehensive weekly and monthly situation reports reflecting trends, challenges and needs on field.
- Report activities using distribution lists, field reports, attendance lists and Kobo online activity reporting.
- Assist in other WASH related duties as requested by the line manager.
Critical interfaces
- Logistic: Under the supervision of the WSO the WSA have to check the quality of items received to the warehouse (water tanks, frames, latrines and other WASH facilities) and liaison with logistic as needed.
- Education: provide WASH facilities and services to schools and education centers to support the education program in the common WASH education working cadastral.
- Shelter: Coordinate on activities linked to shelter in settlements
Competencies
- Professional competencies
- Bachelor degree in Civil, Mechanical Engineering
- 2 years of experience working within Projects in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Experience from working with water and sanitation projects in a humanitarian/recovery context
- Proficiency in MS Office (words and excel)
- Fluency in English and Arabic, both spoken and written
- Knowledge of the context of Refugees informal settlements and/or urban settlements
