ACTED launched a national level three-year EU-MADAD funded program with multiple NGO partners (WW-GVC, Solidarites International, LebRelief, ACF and others) and government stakeholders (Ministries, four Regional Water Establishments) to improve water service delivery and governance in Lebanon. Within this program, HawkaMaa-EU partners will be delivering water wise training modules to the local community which enhances their knowledge about the current status of water resources in Lebanon and promotes sustainable practices.
Within this framework, ACTED seeks to recruit three Research Assistants to support in updating and developing the modules of the Water Wise program, which are designed to be delivered to the local community. These modules focus on various aspects of integrated water resource management, climate change impacts on water resources, water efficiency and use, and stormwater management. The research assistants will be responsible for conducting comprehensive research on these topics, collecting, and analysing data, and synthesizing information into engaging and informative content for the modules. They will work closely with the Water Resource Specialist to ensure that the modules are comprehensive.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Update existing training modules on water resource management, climate change, agriculture, water use efficiency, and stormwater management.
- Develop new training modules based on the identified research gaps.
- Ensure the training modules are engaging, informative, and align with the target audience’s needs.
- Incorporate interactive elements such as case studies, exercises, and quizzes into the modules.
- Utilize GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) to develop maps with all relevant cartographic elements.
- Collect and analyse spatial data to create informative and visually appealing maps.
- Ensure the accuracy and reliability of the GIS data used for mapping.
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews on water resource management, climate change, agriculture, water use efficiency, and stormwater management.
- Stay updated with the latest research, trends, and advancements in the field.
- Create visually appealing and informative PowerPoint presentations to accompany the training modules.
- Use effective presentation techniques to engage the audience and convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Support water resource specialist in other components of the project where relevant
REQUIREMENTS
Education
- A university degree or equivalent in the fields of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or Hydrogeology.
Work Experience
Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience in water-related research. Graduate students are encouraged to apply
Skills and Abilities
- Good written and spoken communication skills;
- Commitment to knowledge
- A strong academic background in relevant coursework related to water resource management, climate change, agriculture, water use efficiency, or stormwater management.
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS)
- Strong research skills, including literature review, data collection, and analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and other relevant software tools for presentation development.
- Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
Languages
- Professional written and spoken English;
- Native spoken Arabic.
- Computer Skills
- Full professional competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint;
- Knowledge of GIS software is a plus.
