Organizational Context
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, with a network of 192-member National Societies. The Headquarters are organized into three main Divisions: (i) National Society Development and Operations Coordination; (ii) Global Relations, Humanitarian Diplomacy and Digitalization; and (iii) Management Policy, Strategy and Corporate Services.
The IFRC Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regional office based in Beirut, Lebanon supports 17 national societies in the region. The MENA Health, Disasters, Climate, and Crises (HDCC) unit within the MENA regional office works with one regional plan as well as provides technical support & quality assurance to country cluster support teams and country offices.
The Migration and Displacement, under the HDCC Unit at the IFRC MENA Regional Office, is responsible for the coordination of Zone-wide efforts to implement the IFRC Global Strategy on Migration, to advance the goals of the Global Route Based Migration Programme, and to lead the Secretariat of the RCRC MENA Migration Network.
Job Purpose
The Migration Intern will support the Migration and Displacement Officer with efforts to efficiently conduct the Migration and Displacement strategy and initiatives and support with high-quality provision for the day-to-day tasks.
As part of the implementation of the IFRC Global Strategy on Migration and of the IFRC MENA Migration Framework, to support the IFRC MENA Migration and Displacement team to implement migration related plans and programmes in the MENA Region.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will carry out the following specific tasks:
- Support the upcoming logistical arrangements for events, meetings, and workshops such as the Movement Reference Group on Internal Displacement and the Global Migration Task Force meeting, and the General Annual Meeting of the MENA Migration Network
- Support the organization and coordination of the meetings of the RCRC MENA Migration Network, including sharing documents and taking minutes meeting
- Support the development of IFRC MENA’s migration-related projects and initiatives, including but not limited to supporting the delivery of migration -related training and capacity building activities for Migration Focal Points and NSs staff and volunteers
- Support with regular reporting, and preparing specific thematic research/discussion papers
- Support the processing of translation and proofreading tasks of technical materials.
- Support the day-to-day tasks including travel support and finance-related aspects.
- Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the line manager
Education
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as migration studies, international relations, development, social sciences, or a related field.

- Demonstrated interest and knowledge of migration and displacement issues in the Middle East and North Africa region.
- Strong analytical and research skills, with experience in data analysis and report writing.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and partners.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Work experience with other international organisations, large NGOs and/or governmental development agencies (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills and Languages
- Understanding of the humanitarian context (Required)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse cultural context (Required)
- Strong report-writing skills (Required)
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) (Required)
- Basic experience in project management (Preferred)
