BACKGROUND

LAW is an independent, non-profit organization comprised of human rights lawyers working in fragile and conflict affected areas in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. We have a particular focus on gender equality and sexual and gender-based violence, natural resource exploitation, rule of law and accountability, and transformative justice, working to bring justice to those who need it most.

LAW’s ground-breaking work has been included in several UN and Member State government reports and has received international media coverage, including in the New York Times, the Times of London, the Guardian, Voice of America, BBC News, Sky News, Al Jazeera, Huffington Post and Foreign Policy.

LA’s Programe in Lebanon:

Legal Action was set up in Beirut in 2018. The organisation provides legal assistance and representation to individuals in the governorates of Beirut, Mount Lebanon, North Lebanon, Akkar and the Bekaa. Our legal aid lawyers work closely with LAW Network’s international lawyers to develop innovative legal strategies designed to increase access to justice for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), the stateless, and other groups who have suffered human rights violations and abuses.

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Drive LAW’s vehicle in Beirut and North (Tripoli) regions of Lebanon
  • Maintain passenger safety and security of transported materials/equipment, as mentioned below
  • Ensure the maintenance of LAW’s vehicle, as mentioned below
  • Carry out logistic activities under supervision of the HR & Logistics Coordinator
  • Remain stand-by in the office in between movements
  • Report any security related issues to the HR & Logistics Coordinator
  • Support operational organization of field trips and LA programs/activities
  • Any other additional duties requested by the HR & Logistics Coordinator or Programme Manager

Passenger safety and security of passengers and transported materials/equipment

  • Adapt his behavior and drive to assure passengers’ security, LAW equipment and the rest of road/street users (drivers, pedestrians, etc.).
  • Always drive according to the Lebanon circulation code and respecting speed limits
  • Always wear safety belt while driving and ensuring all passengers do the same
  • Ensure having a valid driving license and always have it ready for any eventual inspection
  • Ensure that all necessary documents are valid and renewed before the expiration date (yearly road safety check, registration of main drivers with the rental company, etc.)

Maintenance of the vehicle

  • Check on a regular basis the vehicle’s motor, oil level, breaks liquid, air pressure of wheels, wind shield liquid, etc.
  • Alert the HR & Logistics Coordinator in case of technical problem or need for maintenance
  • Organize or if possible, carrying out of any necessary maintenance after validation of direct the HR & Logistics Coordinator
  • Ensure the vehicle is clean on the inside and outside
  • Ensure all necessary equipment and material is present in the vehicle and in good condition (tools, spare wheel, airlift, belts, ropes, etc.)
  • Refill the fuel tank each time the tank is at ¼ of its capacity

Qualifications and Education Requirements

    • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
    • Safe driving practices
    • Able to follow verbal directions, read maps, follow GPS
    • Reliable and punctual with a dedicated professionalism to job and duties
    • Able to adapt to changing schedules or routines
    • Able to assist passengers when needed

  • Organized and able to follow a schedule
  • High school diploma or equivalent; or any relevant experience;
  • Previous professional experience driving preferred
