General Purpose of the Position
The Social Worker will be responsible for building new JRS programs with migrant and minority refugee communities in collaboration with the Arrupe Migrant Centre.
Main Responsibilities of the Position
1.Protection and Case Management
- Design and implement effective case management strategies while serving as the protection focal point in the project ;
- Provide comprehensive case management services, including needs assessment, referral coordination within the migrant sector, advocacy for related issues like school registration and healthcare access, and accompaniment throughout the process ;
- Assist in the development and enhancement of the centre’s current cash assistance initiatives ;
- Manage and fill required tracking forms and reports, archive specific forms for case profiling, referral and weekly/monthly reporting, ensuring confidentiality, accuracy, and timeliness.
2.Capacity Building and Community Development
- Assist in creating and implementing programs for the development of migrant-led organizations and community groups, helping participants build leadership skills, organizational capacity, and skills in coordinating events and activities. This may involve conducting trainings on various related topics;
- Collaborate with team members and community leaders to develop outreach strategies specific to migrant and minority refugee communities.
3.Psychosocial Support
- Conduct counselling services for individuals within the program;
- Conduct awareness sessions about various topics based on existing needs.
Other
- Supervise social work interns from partner universities when required ;
- Participate in meetings and trainings inside and outside the centre when required;
- Provide regular updates to Project Director, Country MHPSS officer, and other JRS country staff as needed, and report critical/high-risk cases;
- Collaborate with relevant country office staff, including MEAL and programmes teams, and MHPSS, education, protection officers as needed for technical support.
Qualifications, Skills, and Personal Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or any other related field;
- High proficiencies in English and Arabic are essential, as most activities are conducted in English and Arabic. Proficiency in French and any additional languages spoken by the target populations is a plus (French, Sinhala, Tagalog, Tamil, Urdu, etc.);
- Availability to work on Sundays is required, as it is a crucial day for engaging with migrants. A schedule of Sunday-Thursday work or an alternative day off can be arranged;
- Demonstrated experience in case management, preferably in a migrant or refugee setting;
- Strong knowledge of the migrant sector and relevant referral resources;
- Excellent communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and community organizations;
- Proficiency in organizing and facilitating trainings, workshops, and awareness campaigns;
- Understanding of mental health and psychosocial support principles;
- Creative thinker with a proven ability to build and develop programs;
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
